Just a note.
it would make more since and easier for those who buy and install to make db like below structure instead of chopped up in several install pages, or for those where they could just import the db? SAMPLE:

guess i just never understand why one chooses a more complicated way of scripting when kiss (keepting it simple) to basic layout would do for these small to mid size scripts.
no pun intended. Just a constructive thought for you to consider is all.

ps. is nice script. just had that install comment to make it easier on installing when there are issues, this makes it easier to work around sometimes.

The answer is simple: most people wouldn’t even know how to import a MySQL dump. It might be easier for you, not for most people.

I have been trying to install the script.
1. I have setup my database
2. Change the config attributes to match my database
3. Uploaded the files to my server
4. Went to mysever/directory/install.php
5. System went to install2.php and from here it continues giving me this message:
The database connection has not been accomplished. Check the file config.php fits this model:
The file in the server (config.php) has been changed and it has the correct permission.
Please help

Then simply the database info you entered is wrong and the connection couldn’t be made. In any case config.php doesn’t need any permission.

Hi, I’ve downloaded this free directory software and need help deciding how I now get it into a website format. In the past I’ve used a template website host such as Homestead, but they seem unable to allow me to upload files to their server. I need a very basic template website/server (where I can use your software) and also one that I can alter myself - please can you suggest one for me? Thanks

Any web server with PHP/MySQL support will be fine. In any case there’s no such thing as a “template server”, i don’t know what you mean.

I have been trying to use the cript but it doesnt find the database. Does it use MySql5x ?

Hello,
I am now getting the below error for the directory application. It was working for a while until recently… please assist.

An appropriate representation of the requested resource /directory/admin_edit_page.php could not be found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Simply browse to a category and click “add” on the category menu.

That site is using the ODP script, which mirrors the DMOZ directory (hence it is already populated).
To add urls in the directory script simply go to the desired category and click “add url” (or in the control panel “add page”).

You can translate the directory by editig the template files. Please, read redme.html file.
